5 Main Roadblocks That Hold You Back

Usually when we do not reach our goals there are several key factors that we name to explain our “failures”: lack of money, lack of experience, lack of time, lack of necessary technology, and lack of support. This is true. Many of us may lack all these things, BUT! There is a “but”…

We can acquire anything we want, given a little bit of creativity and determination.

1. FEAR

Fear is an emotional response to a perceived threat. It is a basic survival mechanism occurring in response to a specific stimulus, such as pain or the threat of danger.

Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat.” Theodore Roosevelt

  • Every time we have doubts about starting our own business or learning a new skill, because it may prove not to be a worthy investment, we act out of fear.
  • Every time we turn down a new opportunity, because there is some risk involved, we act out of fear.
  • Every time we do not ask for help, because we are afraid to look “weak”, “foolish” or “inadequate”, we act out of fear.

You might have started something in the past and it did not work out the way you initially planned. This happens to the best of us. Every person has their own personal baggage of failures, mistakes and set-backs. But it is not a good enough reason to stop trying! To overcome those fears by do more of what you fear.

2. LACK OF SELF CONFIDENCE

There are plenty of resources up there. The problem is that many people do not believe that they deserve them. They dream about what they love to do, but when it comes to planning or going after those dreams, they do not even bother. A little voice inside of them says “There is no way YOU can do it”. You might be telling yourself that you do not deserve success, because you lack talent, self-confidence, education or will power.

But the truth is that success is not some kind of reward given for being a “perfect son/daughter”, an “A” student or “employee of the month”. Success is a result of aligning your passion, energy and your goals together. It starts with finding out what you want to do and gathering courage to go after your dreams.

3. LACK OF KNOWLEDGE

If you do not know where to start, it is easy to feel overwhelmed and helpless. Lack of knowledge is a serious obstacle, simply because you might not know where to look for information that you lack. But fortunately, in our age of technology this problem is relatively easy to fix. That is what the internet is for! Start with the basics. And take your time.

Friedrich Nietzsche once said, “He who would learn to fly one day must first learn to stand and walk and run and climb and dance; one cannot fly into flying.” Similar, no matter how talented or incredible you are, you cannot become a pro, without starting at the beginner’s level first

4. POOR MINDSET

Your attitude determines your altitude.” If you think of yourself as defeated, a loser and that you will never amount to nothing more that you are now; then you never will. If you see yourself as successful, a winner, accomplishing much in life; then you can and will.

You must think about and fix your frame of mind on where you want to be and not where you are currently. If you are down and out in life now, you should begin focusing on moving upward and out of your current negative financial condition you are in. You do not have to stay in your current situation any longer. Success, wealth and a healthy lifestyle is within your reach.

5. PROCRASTINATION-LAZINESS

Many goals sound very appealing at first. You may even write them down on a piece of paper, but when it comes to adjusting your schedule, changing your habits, taking consistent action to accomplish those goals, they suddenly lose half of their appeal. The whole work thingy just seems too hard. It is much easier to think of a valid reason why you cannot do it.

There are many excuses like “I’ve been working out for months and haven’t lost a single lb.” When your mind gives you signals of doubt, that is when you start procrastinating which then leads to laziness. Then everything comes to a halt.

  • Prioritize your goals..
  • Be honest with yourself! If your heart is not fully there, maybe you should reanalyze whether or not it is worth the battle.
